Microchip Technology Inc., a leading provider of electronic components, has launched two new online debuggers/programmers, MPLAB® ICD 5 and MPLAB PICkit™ 5, offering fast, cost-effective, and convenient solutions for developers. These tools come with remote programming capabilities, providing an enhanced user experience.
The MPLAB ICD 5 online debugger/programmer offers advanced connectivity and power options for designers and developers working with PIC®, AVR®, SAM devices, and dsPIC® digital signal controllers (DSC). With reduced power line requirements, this development tool can be used in space-constrained environments. The MPLAB ICD 5 online programming and debugging tool can be quickly, flexibly, and conveniently used by connecting it to a PC via USB Type-C® or through Ethernet power (PoE)+. PoE+ enables devices to be powered by the same cable used for data communication, eliminating the need for additional power lines. In addition to the flexibility provided by PoE+, Ethernet connectivity enables remote development and isolation from environmental conditions.
Rodger Richey, Senior Director of Microchip's Development Systems Business Unit, stated, "The MPLAB ICD 5 online debugger/programmer expands Microchip's mid-range debugger product portfolio, offering additional features and high-end capabilities typically found in more expensive products. With cutting-edge hardware and wireless connectivity options, this tool exhibits exceptional versatility and ease of use for designing various applications."
The MPLAB PICkit™ 5 online debugger/programmer is a more flexible upgraded version that can be used both connected to a computer with MPLAB X Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and in the field. This fast and portable tool is compatible with all architectures provided by Microchip and can be remotely programmed using Microchip's latest Programmer-to-Go (PTG) smartphone application. It utilizes wireless Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE) to allow developers to connect their smartphones with the device through the PTG application. With the PICkit 5, users can select multiple program images on an SD card through the application and program different images on-site. In previous versions, users could only program images within MPLAB X IDE or MPLAB IPE before going to the field.
Richey stated, "The MPLAB PICkit 5 online debugger/programmer maintains the speed and compact size of its predecessor while enhancing portability. It offers a wide range of versatility in programming by enabling on-site selection of various programs and utilizing custom applications."
