Micron has recently unveiled the LPCAMM2 memory solution, a groundbreaking innovation and the world's first to be based on LPDDR5X DRAM. This development, marking a significant advancement in memory specifications since the introduction of SODIMM in 1997, is poised to revolutionize the landscape for electronic components.
The LPCAMM2, featuring LPDDR5X DRAM design, achieves an impressive transfer speed of up to 9600 Mbps, surpassing the 5600 Mbps limit of DDR5 SODIMM. Notably, this compact and modular hardware solution remarkably reduces power consumption by 61%, while delivering a performance boost of up to 71% and optimizing space utilization by 64%.
Micron plans to introduce LPCAMM2 in capacities ranging from 16 to 64GB, currently in the sample production phase and expected to enter full-scale production in the first half of 2024. This cutting-edge memory solution aims to enhance PC performance, reduce power consumption, and drive technological advancements in the PC market.
In a strategic move to promote and implement the LPCAMM2 memory solution, Micron has established partnerships with key PC customer collaborators. Intel, too, is set to embrace LPCAMM2 for platform designs in customer PC storage spaces, particularly in AI applications like machine learning algorithms.
