Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Introduces latest 80V Power MOSFET with Shield Gate Technology

Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Limited (AOS) (Nasdaq: AOSL), a designer, developer, and global supplier of power semiconductors, power ICs, and digital power products, today announced the release of our latest 80V Power MOSFET using patented Shield Gate Technology, which is optimized for higher switching frequencies used in telecom and server power supply to achieve higher efficiency compared to the previous generation. In hard switching topologies, the new 80V Power MOSFET technology features lower switching losses and less voltage overshoot than the previous generation. This enhanced performance at low loads and across the load range simplifies design decisions for high-efficiency applications. The 80V MOSFET family of devices has the best power density and energy efficiency, which is critical in solar, power supplies, and battery-powered applications like eScooters.

AONR66820 and AONS66811 are Power MOSFETs in DFN3.3x3.3 and DFN 5x6 package, respectively. AONR66820 is perfectly suited for isolated DC-DC converters used in telecom applications. AONS66811 is appropriate for synchronous rectification and provides improved reverse recovery charge and reduced voltage overshoot, which provides higher efficiency and more robustness to the power supply.

In comparison to a typical wire-bonded  TO-263  (D2PAK) packaging, the AOTL66810 (80V) in the TOLL package has a 25% reduced footprint. In comparison to current options, this new device has a higher power density. To reduce the number of MOSFETs in parallel, it is perfect for industrial BLDC motor applications and battery management. At 10Vgs, the AOTL66810 has a maximum resistance of 1.25mOhms and a maximum drain current of 420A. At 1700A, the maximum junction temperature is 175°C, which limits the pulsed current.

"The huge performance gain using clip technology in a durable TOLL package allows for better current density and capabilities." Because there are fewer devices in parallel, the AOTL66810 simplifies new designs, allowing for cost savings in the entire system. "The TOLL package from AOS is best suited for high-power applications," stated Peter H. Wilson, AOS's Director of LV/MV MOSFETs.
