Motion Sensors - AccelerometersAn accelerometer is a type of motion sensor that is used to measure acceleration, or the rate of change of velocity. Accelerometers are commonly used in a variety of applications, including smartphones, automobiles, and fitness trackers.
Accelerometers are typically small, electronic devices that contain one or more accelerometer sensors. These sensors use a combination of microelectromechanical (MEMS) technology and electronic circuitry to measure acceleration. When an accelerometer is subjected to acceleration, the motion of the accelerometer's proof mass (a small, movable mass within the sensor) is detected and converted into an electrical signal.
