Surge SuppressorsA surge suppressor is a type of circuit protection device that is used to protect electronic circuits from overvoltage transients, such as lightning strikes and electrical surges. A surge suppressor typically consists of a metal oxide varistor (MOV) or other voltage-dependent resistor connected across the circuit to be protected. When an overvoltage transient occurs, the MOV will conduct a large current, dissipating the excess energy and protecting the circuit from damage. Surge suppressors are often used in conjunction with other types of circuit protection devices, such as fuses and gas discharge tubes (GDTs), to provide a robust and effective protection against overvoltage transients.
