ON Semiconductor continues to increase the size of silicon carbide, the production capacity of the Czech factory will increase by 16 times

On September 21, local time, ON Semiconductor held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the completion of the expanded silicon carbide (SiC) plant in Roznov, Czech Republic.

ON Semiconductor said that the expanded Czech plant will increase SiC production capacity by 16 times in the next two years, and will add 200 jobs by the end of 2024. So far, ON Semiconductor has invested more than 150 million US dollars in the Czech plant, and will continue to invest 300 million US dollars before the end of 2023.

On the 11th of last month, ON Semiconductor's SiC factory in Hudson, New Hampshire was inaugurated. The base will enable ON Semiconductor to increase its SiC wafer production capacity fivefold year-on-year by the end of 2022. This expansion gives ON Semiconductor full control of the SiC manufacturing supply chain, including the procurement of SiC powder and graphite raw materials, and the delivery of packaged SiC devices.

Simon Keeton, general manager of ON Semiconductor's Power Solutions Group, pointed out that the Czech plant, together with Hudson's SiC ingot capacity expansion, allows ON Semiconductor to provide customers with a vital supply guarantee to meet their rapidly expanding SiC ingot production capacity. SiC solution needs.

The company also stated that the overall accessible market size (TAM) of SiC is expected to expand from $2 billion in 2021 to $6.5 billion in 2026, with a compound annual growth rate of 33%. During its second-quarter earnings call, ON Semiconductor announced a commitment to $4 billion in SiC revenue over the next three years through long-term supply agreements with a broad customer base.
