According to the Korean media, on September 29, SK Siltron, a leading semiconductor wafer manufacturer, has announced plans to invest 2.3 trillion Korean won (approximately 1.6 billion USD) over the next five years, aiming to boost production capacity at its wafer facility in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province. This investment is expected to create 1,000 new jobs at the plant.
As part of this expansion, the company's board has approved an initial expenditure of 855 billion Korean won to increase the capacity for 300mm wafers. Additionally, depending on market conditions, SK Siltron is considering an additional 400 billion won investment.
The move comes as SK Siltron anticipates a rebound in the memory chip sector following a brief downturn. The company believes this expansion will position it strongly in the coming years, helping to meet increasing demand and maintain a competitive edge in the industry.
This strategic decision is part of SK Siltron's ongoing efforts to enhance its manufacturing capabilities and contribute to the semiconductor sector's long-term growth.
