Production plummeted! It is reported that TSMC's 3nm monthly production capacity will be revised down from 44,000 to 10,000 by the end of the year

According to industry news, TSMC originally planned to have a monthly production capacity of 44,000 pieces of 3 nanometers by the end of the year, but now it is only about 10,000 pieces, and the volume rate is significantly lower than expected. At the same time, the estimates of orders placed to suppliers have also been revised all the way. It is understood that compared with the beginning of the year, the revision rate of orders at this stage has reached 4-50%.

According to Juheng.com, TSMC's 3-nanometer customers mainly include Apple and Intel, but it is reported that Apple's Mac series products equipped with a new generation of M2 processors will be postponed to March next year, which also means that TSMC will not assist at the end of the year. Apple mass-produces M2 chips. Intel, on the other hand, is limited by its own technology that has not yet matured, delaying the development of the new platform for at least one year, resulting in TSMC's original estimated new production capacity that can only be idle and wait.

However, in the long run, the industry is still optimistic about the demand for TSMC's 3nm process. Wei Zhejia, president of TSMC, once pointed out at the legal conference that the demand for 3 nanometers exceeded expectations, partly due to the ongoing problem of machine delivery. TSMC is working closely with equipment suppliers to prepare more capacity for the 3nm process to support strong customer demand next year, 2024 and beyond.
