According to Korean media reports, ASML CEO Peter Wennink (Peter Wennink) arrived in South Korea on Tuesday and spoke at a press conference held at the InterContinental Hotel in Seoul, saying that the company will expand its foothold in South Korea through plans to build new facilities points, and add more capacity according to the growth forecast of the global chip industry. The media revealed that Peter Vinick went to South Korea again after half a year to participate in the groundbreaking ceremony of their semiconductor cluster in Hwaseong. ASML's project is scheduled to break ground on Wednesday.

 

Hwaseong is about 40 kilometers south of Seoul. The ASML Hwaseong semiconductor cluster covers an area of ​​16,000 square meters, including maintenance centers, training and R&D centers, education and experience centers. It is planned to be completed in 2024.

 

ASML Korea is headquartered in Hwaseong, near Samsung Electronics' semiconductor factory, and has offices in other regions to provide quick response and service to key customers of Samsung and SK Hynix, the two South Korean chip giants accounting for the Dutch equipment supplier's global sales. 30% of the amount.

 

Regarding the next-generation EUV system technology, high NA EUV, Peter Vinick said that he expects the first shipments to be sent out in 2024, and will be applied to ASML customers in large-scale manufacturing in 2026 or 2027. The company has previously stated that it plans to increase production capacity from 2025 to 2026, with an annual output of 90 EUV (extreme ultraviolet) lithography machines and 600 DUV (deep ultraviolet) lithography machines. At the same time, from 2027 to 2028 In 2019, 20 systems of high NA EUV lithography machines will be produced.

 

The ASML CEO's visit to South Korea sparked speculation that he is expected to meet with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong. Since they have known each other for a long time, the two have maintained a close relationship. Neither company confirmed plans for talks between the two parties, however.
