According to media reports, SiPearl, the industrialization entity of the European Processor Initiative (EPI), recently announced a partnership with AMD to provide joint solutions for exascale (E-class) supercomputing systems.
According to the cooperation arrangement, SiPearl will integrate the AMD Instinct accelerator with its Rhea processor, evaluate the interoperability between AMD's open source ROC software and the Rhea processor, and perform targeted optimization to realize a series of heterogeneous computing programming models and development frameworks for AMD. Compatibility enables third-party European research institutions to more easily migrate their computing needs to SiPearl/AMD solutions, and will also help SiPearl products be accepted by more HPC server manufacturers.
According to public information, SiPearl's Rhea processor is designed for the needs of the EuroHPC program, integrating the Arm architecture and the RISC-V vector accelerator developed in the EPI program, as well as free licensed IP provided by other EPI program participants including Infineon , which is planned to be manufactured in a 6nm process.
