According to reports, South Korean President Yin Xiyue met with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and discussed how to strengthen economic and security relations. The two sides seek cooperation in the chip industry.
The two leaders stressed the importance of further strengthening existing cooperation between the two countries' semiconductor industries and expressed support for maintaining the resilience of the industry's supply chain, the two leaders said in a joint statement after their summit in Seoul on Thursday.
The statement did not mention China or the United States, nor did it mention any details of cooperation between chipmakers in the two countries to try to deal with the Biden administration's semiconductor regulations.
Previously, according to Nikkei News, Dutch lithography giant ASML will set up a technical base in South Korea to be responsible for the "remanufacturing" process of improving the performance of manufacturing equipment and provide technical support to customer companies. The base will be located in Hwaseong, about 40 kilometers south of Seoul, with a total investment of 240 billion won ($181 million) and an area of 16,000 square meters.
