Finnish Prime Minister: Europe is too dependent on Taiwan's semiconductor technology

According to Politico, Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin (Sanna Marin) recently said that Europe is economically vulnerable because it relies too much on imports of important technology products such as computer chips made in Taiwan.

She said that when it comes to chips or semiconductors, she thinks Europe is too dependent on Taiwan. Taiwan is crucial to the global semiconductor supply chain because Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) is a leader in advanced chip manufacturing. Marin said that if Europe did not build up its own technological capabilities, supplies could become tight in times of crisis.

According to media sources, the EU announced its chip plan earlier this year, aiming to increase the EU's market share in the global semiconductor industry chain to 20% by 2030.

Previously, it was reported that European chipmakers were seeking to stabilize their business in mainland China as the global supply chain became complicated due to the strengthening of semiconductor export controls in the United States. The chief executives of STMicroelectronics, Infineon and NXP Semiconductors said in recent days that while they comply with U.S. export restrictions on the semiconductor industry in mainland China, they have no plans to stop their operations in mainland China.
