TSMC's Kaohsiung plant officially started construction, mass production will begin in 2024

According to media reports, TSMC said a few days ago that after land preparation, the Kaohsiung plant has officially started construction and will start mass production in 2024 as planned.

The capacity utilization rate of TSMC’s 7nm process in the fourth quarter has been loose. The construction time of the 7nm plant in Kaohsiung has been temporarily postponed, and the 28nm plant is still on schedule. The trend of TSMC’s Kaohsiung plant has attracted attention from all walks of life. Previously, TSMC President Wei Zhejia once said that Kaohsiung originally planned two factories, and the 7nm aspect will be slightly adjusted, only temporarily postponed, and the manufacturing process will not be changed. The 28nm part will be carried out according to the schedule.

According to sources, TSMC's 28nm factory project was awarded last Friday, and Mutual Aid Construction will undertake the construction.

It is reported that TSMC’s 7nm and 6nm of the same family were originally the main manufacturing process, and the revenue in the second quarter still accounted for 30%. However, in the second half of this year, customers faced inventory adjustments and cut orders urgently, resulting in a sharp drop in capacity utilization. TSMC's advanced manufacturing process is the first to loosen the process, so TSMC simultaneously adjusts the production capacity planning of the Kaohsiung plant, giving priority to cutting into 28nm.
