Reuters reported on November 30 that the White House said that US President Biden plans to visit TSMC's Arizona plant on December 6 to promote the development of the US semiconductor manufacturing industry.
Previously, TSMC's Arizona plant planned to hold an "equipment move-in" ceremony on December 6. It was once rumored that TSMC would invite U.S. President Joe Biden to attend. TSMC did not confirm, but said that it plans to invite guests including customers, suppliers, academics and government representatives in December to celebrate the arrival of the first batch of machinery and equipment to the factory.
TSMC also pointed out that with the arrival of machinery and equipment, it means that the factory building has been partially completed. Next will be preparations for the move-in of the first cutting-edge equipment for semiconductor manufacturing. The Arizona 5nm plant started construction 18 months ago, and the construction progress is as expected. It will be mass-produced in 2024, with a monthly production capacity of 20,000 pieces.
According to Reuters news, Zhang Zhongmou, founder of TSMC, has said that he is planning to produce advanced 3nm technology chips at the Phoenix (Arizona) factory, but the plan has not yet been fully finalized.
