Qualcomm starts new round of layoffs, will cut dozens of jobs in Israel

According to CTech reports, Qualcomm will conduct a new round of layoffs in Israel, cutting dozens of jobs. Qualcomm has about 700 employees in Israel and a total of 12,500 employees worldwide. At the end of last year, Qualcomm laid off 153 employees in San Diego, USA.

It is reported that Qualcomm's new round of layoffs in Israel and the United States is scheduled to take place in February. Qualcomm has two R&D centers in Israel, in Haifa and Hodsharon, and is also developing operations in the country through its investment arm, Qualcomm Ventures.

Qualcomm bought Israeli startup Cellwize last June for $350 million and has bought several other Israeli companies in the past, including Wilocity for $300 million in 2014 and the imaging unit of CSR Israel for $45 million.

In November last year, Qualcomm again lowered its smartphone shipment forecast and made a pessimistic assessment of the next few quarters. At the end of last year, Akash Palkhiwala, Qualcomm's chief financial officer, said that Qualcomm is reducing expenditures in mature business areas, conducting selective layoffs in certain functional departments and preparing for contingency plans.
