According to foreign media reports, OpenAI, a star AI product developer like ChatGPT, is actively seeking to expand its presence across the entire industry chain. Since last year, it has invested in over ten early-stage AI startups.
Most of the invested companies are developing application tools for generative artificial intelligence models. These include business note-taking applications like Mem and home schedule management like Milo, as well as legal assistants like Harvey and accounting automation platform Kick that utilize open AI models.
Of particular note, OpenAI is currently involved in the financing of Atomic Semi, a startup in the chip manufacturing field. The company was founded by microelectronics enthusiast Sam Zeloof and renowned chip architect Jim Keller, with a focus on chip manufacturing business. They claim to be using "thoroughly" simplified and downsized semiconductor factories and prototype integrated circuits to produce "more affordable" chips in a matter of hours, instead of the usual timeframe of several months.
Media analysis suggests that OpenAI's range of initiatives will ultimately enable it to compete with rivals such as Google and Meta by providing complete solutions for application fields. As an electronic components distributor, it is important to take note of OpenAI's involvement in chip manufacturing and its potential impact on the industry. The investment in Atomic Semi suggests that OpenAI recognizes the importance of semiconductor technology and is positioning itself to be a major player in this area.
