According to a report from Taiwan's Economic Daily News, there has been progress in the expansion of the Central Taiwan Science Park Phase II, which is crucial to the construction of TSMC's 2-nanometer factory.
The Taichung City Development Bureau announced on March 29 that the Central Taiwan Science Park Administration has submitted its expansion plan to the Taichung City Urban Planning Commission for review. If the follow-up procedures go smoothly, it is expected that TSMC will be able to start construction in November of this year.
The Phase II expansion plan of the Central Taiwan Science Park is expected to increase the water usage by approximately 7% of Taichung's current daily water usage, and the electricity usage by approximately 24% of the city's total electricity consumption. The Central Taiwan Science Park Administration stated that it will revise and clarify its plan according to relevant opinions, and is expected to resubmit it for review in mid-April, with the aim of completing the land acquisition and related planning procedures by October, and starting public works and manufacturing simultaneously in November.
This news is relevant as it pertains to the expansion of the Central Taiwan Science Park, which is a key manufacturing hub for the semiconductor industry. With TSMC being a major player in the industry, their construction of a 2-nanometer factory in the park is significant, as it represents the cutting edge of semiconductor technology. It is important to stay informed of developments such as this in order to anticipate future demand for components and plan their inventory accordingly.
