According to a recent report from DigiTimes, NVIDIA has no immediate plans to increase production of the GeForce RTX 40 series graphics cards, and their suppliers- Silitech Technology and KYEC- have not received any notifications or requests for increased orders from NVIDIA.
There are several theories being put forward to explain NVIDIA's current strategy. One theory is that they are looking to maintain current levels of production, in order to clear existing inventory of previous generation graphics cards. However, given the healthy supply of non-public versions of the newly released RTX 4070 as well as the previously released RTX 4080, it could be speculated that NVIDIA's decision may also be motivated by a lackluster demand for their new products.
Another theory suggests that NVIDIA's focus on enterprise products like the A100 may be causing them to prioritize their allocation of resources accordingly, as these graphics cards are in high demand for AI training and chatbot applications.
The recently launched RTX 4070, priced at CNY 4799 ($728), comes with several new features and performance improvements, but faces significant competition from AMD's RX 6800 and previous-generation RTX 30 series graphics cards that still have inventory on the market.
Ultimately, NVIDIA still plans to release more RTX 40 series graphics cards in the coming months.
