Effortless Lighting Control: Motion Sensor Switches

If the corridor in your house is equipped with dual-control lights, with a dual-control switch on each end, and you find it troublesome to raise your hand twice while walking a few steps, then you can follow the instructions below to solve the issue.

There are two options:

1. Replace all the lights with motion sensor tube lights. This option will be a bit more expensive, but the advantage is that they can be individually turned on.

2. Replace the dual-control switches with 86-type motion sensor switches. This option has a lower cost, but the drawback is that all three lights will turn on together.

Following the principles of simplicity, convenience, and affordability, you can choose Option 2. You will need an international electrician C1-61 infrared motion sensor switch with a two-wire system for easy replacement of the existing switch.

For the dual-control circuit, there are two options when using a motion sensor switch:

1. Keep one of the dual-control switches as the main switch and connect them in series to cut off the power.

2. Keep one of the dual-control switches as a dual-control switch and utilize the original dual-control circuit to directly turn on the lights.

The following instructions assume Option 2 is chosen, and the circuit modifications are as follows:

Install the motion sensor switch at one end of the corridor connected to the living room for convenient sensing. Use a regular switch on the bedroom side, and install another motion sensor switch in parallel with it. First, remove the dual-control switches.

If the live wire is too thick and cannot fit into the wiring hole of the motion sensor switch along with the other bridge wire, you may need to grind it down a bit.

Connect the wires properly and test the remaining dual-control switch. It should be working fine.

Test the motion sensor switch on this side as well. It should be functioning correctly.

Here is the final result after installation, although the panel is slightly smaller.

Test the sensing angle, which is quite wide. However, partially cover it facing towards the living room to prevent accidental triggering. You can use adhesive paper temporarily for this purpose.

Since the light sensitivity threshold is set too high, meaning it requires a relatively dark environment to activate, it needs to be lowered. The original circuit consists of a 1M and 200k voltage divider.

Try changing R8 to 10M and test it out.

Also, solder the terminal block to increase strength and reduce contact resistance.

After installation, perform a test, and it should be working fine. Wait until you obtain another motion sensor switch to replace the dual-control switch on the bedroom side, allowing motion sensing on both sides (by connecting the motion sensor switches in parallel).
