Innovative VFD Desktop Clock: Samsung Integration

Meet the VFD Desktop Clock (7-BT-317NK), a key component seamlessly integrated into Samsung's cutting-edge home entertainment system. This sleek display panel not only enhances visual experiences but also embodies a meticulously designed, cost-effective circuitry. Let's explore the ingenious choices that make this clock tick.

Component Selection (Low-Cost Approach)

For this circuit design, we'll opt for a low-cost solution. The previous VFD driver design used a transformerless approach.

This time, the negative voltage circuit will forgo the use of higher-cost IC chips capable of generating inverted voltage boosts.

We'll employ the MT3608 (priced at $0.30 each) chip in conjunction with an operational amplifier for negative-to-positive feedback conversion using a 1x Cuk structure. However, this approach will require the use of two 10uH inductors ($0.31 each).

Filament drive will be accomplished using the budget-friendly TC118S motor driver ($0.13 each) in combination with PWM control.

The VFD-driving chip will remain the professional-grade PT6315 ($2.59 each).

For the MCU, we'll use the ESP8266EX main controller (ESP-12S) for convenience and cost control. The automatic download circuit is designed with the CH340C chip ($1.49 each), which can be soldered or left unsoldered, allowing for manual wire connections to the solder pads for programming.

There's provision for an AHT21 temperature and humidity sensor, which can be soldered or omitted.

Additionally, there are three user buttons and a pink LED, a 0603-sized SMD LED, serving as an indicator light.

The RSTB and IO0 pins are separately brought out to solder pads, eliminating the need for a dedicated reset button.
