Infineon MOTIX MCU ICs: Enhanced Motor Control Solutions

Infineon Technologies Corporation has unveiled the latest additions to its MOTIX™ MCU embedded power IC lineup – the TLE988x and TLE989x series. These cutting-edge solutions integrate gate drivers, microcontrollers, communication interfaces, and power management into a single chip, optimizing space efficiency.

The TLE988x and TLE989x series stand out with enhanced performance and a communication interface featuring CAN (FD). These ICs have received AEC Q-100 certification, positioning them as ideal options for automotive applications, particularly in brushed and brushless DC motor control for vehicle comfort, body, and thermal management.

Andreas Doll, the Senior Vice President and General Manager of Intelligent Power Products at Infineon, emphasized that the new MOTIX MCU embedded power IC series addresses the demand for integrated intelligent motor control solutions. Compared to their predecessors, the TLE987x series, these new ICs offer a remarkable 60% increase in processing capability. Additionally, they incorporate essential features like functional safety and network security, which play a crucial role in applications like electric vehicle thermal management systems.

The new devices feature B4 or B6 bridge N-channel MOSFET drivers, an Arm® Cortex® M3 microcontroller, a CAN (FD) controller, and a transceiver supporting high-speed communication of up to 2 Mbps. With a high system frequency of 60 MHz and dual flash memory support for read-while-write operations, users can enjoy rapid and stable communication, along with exceptional computational performance. Furthermore, these products adhere to ISO 26262 (ASIL B) standards and boast integrated network security features, all contained within a compact 7 mm x 7 mm TQFP package, setting an industry-leading board footprint standard.

The MOTIX MCU TLE988x two-phase bridge driver series and MOTIX MCU TLE989x three-phase bridge driver series offer multiple semiconductor devices with flash capacities of up to 256 kB. They are designed to withstand temperature ranges of up to 175°C (Tj max). These ICs employ Infineon's adaptive MOSFET control algorithm, enhancing system immunity to electromagnetic interference and reducing power consumption by intelligently adjusting gate currents.

Infineon provides a comprehensive ecosystem to support the evaluation and design integration processes for MOTIX MCU embedded power ICs. This ecosystem includes software, evaluation boards, kits, as well as various analog, configuration, and visualization tools. Additionally, Infineon offers a 150W cooling pump reference design. Alongside sample and demonstration software, the company delivers a complete commercial software product stack, encompassing ASPICE-compliant automotive standard motor control algorithm libraries, including advanced FOC algorithms.
