Leading display giants, Samsung Display (SDC) and LG Display (LGD), have taken center stage at the prestigious 2023 Korea Display Industry Expo (K-Display 2023). This annual event serves as a showcase for cutting-edge technologies in the display industry.
SDC's participation at K-Display 2023 has garnered significant attention for its array of groundbreaking OLED innovations. The company unveiled an impressive lineup that included rollable displays, slidable displays, and flexible displays designed for next-generation digital cockpits.
Of notable interest is SDC's unwavering commitment to portable design solutions for large-scale IT devices. Among the highlights were the 12.4-inch rollable display and a 17-inch large-format slidable display. This encompassed two distinct concepts: the Flex Slidable Solo and the Flex Slouble Duet, catering to one-way and two-way extensions, respectively. The seamless transition from 13 to 14 inches to an expanded 17.3-inch screen offers users unparalleled versatility in their workflows.
Beyond this, SDC demonstrated an innovative array of folding screen concepts, including the S-type and G-type folding screens. Particularly noteworthy was the foldable screen tailored for notebooks, which started at 13 inches and expanded to 17.3 inches as needed. Additionally, SDC's forward-looking "New Digital Cockpit" OLED solution for automobiles wowed attendees, featuring multi-screen solutions in sizes of 34 inches and 15.6 inches, meticulously aligned with the future design aesthetic of vehicle interiors.
Equally compelling is LGD's distinctive approach, anchored in the theme of "Customer Innovative Experience." The company's exhibition space was thoughtfully divided into three key domains: Mobility, Total Solution, and Transparent Future.
The Transparent Future segment unveiled LGD's expanded range of transparent OLED products, adding 30-inch and 77-inch options to complement the existing 55-inch offering. Curved transparent OLED panels took the spotlight, revealing a harmonious blend of form and function.
Within the Mobility sphere, LGD's vision for next-gen transportation was prominently displayed. A concept vehicle took center stage, featuring a sprawling 34-inch P-OLED dashboard screen capable of seamlessly presenting vital information and dynamic navigation maps. Complementing this, the center console and rear seating areas were equipped with elegantly curved 12-inch P-OLED displays, enriching the in-car experience.
LGD's endeavor to strengthen its presence in the automotive OLED sector was exemplified by the introduction of cost-effective glass-based solutions, such as Advanced Thin OLED (ATO), and innovative technologies like Switchable Privacy Mode (SPM).
Underscoring LGD's commitment to advancement, its automotive display offerings were strategically diversified with tandem OLED and high-end LCD technologies. The tandem OLED technology, characterized by dual stacked organic emitting layers, exhibited superior brightness and enhanced lifespan compared to conventional counterparts.
The overarching Total Solution narrative conveyed LGD's dedication to innovation. Highlighting this, Meta Technology emerged as a game-changer, fusing micro lenses with advanced brightness algorithms to elevate energy efficiency by approximately 22%, thereby significantly elevating OLED brightness and expanding optimal viewing angles.
