STMicroelectronics (ST), a prominent semiconductor manufacturer, introduces an innovative series of high-side switch products featuring eight outputs. These cutting-edge devices come equipped with advanced current isolation and protective diagnostic functions, offering a significant boost to application stability, efficiency, reliability, and fault recovery capabilities.

The new ISO808, ISO808A, ISO808-1, and ISO808A-1 eight-output switches are engineered to drive various types of industrial loads, including capacitive, resistive, and inductive loads. They find particular significance in sectors requiring sensitive electronic equipment protection within smart factories, such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), industrial PCs, and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machinery.

Distinguishing features include the ISO808 and ISO808A models with a 0.7A current limit, while the ISO808-1 and ISO808A-1 models offer a higher 1A current limit. Notably, both ISO808 and ISO808-1 models feature individual input pins for each output channel, enabling synchronized switching and comprehensive control. Conversely, the ISO808A and ISO808A-1 models offer serial SPI input pins and open-drain Power Good (Pgood) indicator pins, simplifying system management. Across the series, all models include a dedicated fault indicator pin.

The precision overload protection mechanism guarantees the continued operation of non-overloaded channels, effectively minimizing downtime. This mechanism constantly monitors channel and casing temperatures, promptly detecting and responding to overloads. In cases of overload, the respective channel temporarily deactivates before automatically reactivating, significantly reducing dependence on manual intervention.

For persistent faults, the channel will revert to a deactivated state. Robust protection measures extend to the control-side power rail (VDD) and processing-side power rail (VCC), encompassing features like ground disconnection, reverse polarity protection, short-circuit protection, casing thermal protection, and undervoltage shutdown. Additionally, efficient RF data transmission across the isolation barrier bolsters noise immunity. In-built logic circuitry promptly notifies of data errors, and a watchdog function ensures the safety of processing-level output power in cases of control-side power supply loss.

The formidable efficiency and features of these switches ensure compliance with international standards, including Electrostatic Discharge (ESD), electrical transient, and power frequency magnetic field immunity as outlined in IEC 61000. Moreover, they adhere to UL1577, UL508 isolation specifications, and VDE 0844-11 safety regulations.

Beyond compatibility with alternative brands' switch pin layouts, STMicroelectronics' ISO808 series delivers additional benefits, including lower on-state resistance (RDS(on)) and power-good pin availability in SPI input models. Moreover, the ISO808 series boasts an extensive development ecosystem, offering distinct advantages over other brand offerings. Four X-NUCLEO industrial digital output expansion boards (X-NUCLEO-OUT11A1, -OUT12A1, -OUT13A1, and -OUT14A1), when coupled with STM32 Nucleo development boards, expedite component suitability assessments. The STSW-IFAPGUI graphical user interface application software simplifies component configuration and control, making the ISO808 series an enticing proposition for those seeking advanced solutions.
