On September 12, 2023, Diodes Incorporated (Nasdaq: DIOD) announced the introduction of two innovative single-pole, single-throw Hall Effect switch products tailored for applications in proximity sensing within battery-powered devices. These devices operate with remarkable efficiency, requiring just 1.1μA at 1.85V and 1.6μA within the voltage range of 1.6V to 5.5V. This makes them exceptionally well-suited for portable devices such as smartphones, laptops, and wearables, as well as for household appliances, gaming consoles, and industrial hardware.
These Hall Effect switches boast a working voltage range of 1.6V to 5.5V, allowing them to draw power directly from the internal batteries of portable devices. This design choice not only simplifies power management but also reduces both costs and the physical footprint required for power conversion. Within the dual-output AH139x series, Output 1 corresponds to the North pole (N), while Output 2 corresponds to the South pole (S), operating at typical points of 25G (AH1391) and 30G (AH1392). The AH138x series, offering a single output, is designated by the S pole as indicated by the device's part marking, with typical operating points at 18G (AH1381), 30G (AH1382), and 45G (AH1383).
These switches maintain a narrow operating range to minimize magnetic interference, and their chopper-stabilized design ensures minimal switch point drift and exceptional temperature stability. To enhance their robustness, these devices incorporate strong Human Body Model (HBM) electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection, with the AH138x series providing 8kV and the AH139x series offering 6kV. Additionally, these switches feature push-pull outputs, eliminating the need for external pull-up resistors. This simplifies system design, conserves PCB space, and reduces the overall bill of materials.
To cater to applications with stringent space constraints, all devices are packaged in the industry's smallest form factors: DFN1010-4 and DFN1410-4. SOT23 packages are also available for versions AH1381, AH1382, and AH1383. Both the AH138x and AH139x series are presented in DFN packages. You can find these models and explore the complete range of Hall Effect switches within the Hall Effect Sensor Device Selection Tool page.
