Infineon Successfully Acquires GaN Systems

Infineon Technologies is delighted to announce the successful completion of its acquisition of GaN Systems on October 24, 2023. Based in Ottawa, Canada, GaN Systems is renowned for its robust Gallium Nitride (GaN) power conversion solutions and cutting-edge application technologies. Following approval from all the necessary regulatory bodies, GaN Systems now stands as an integral part of the Infineon family.

On March 2, 2023, Infineon and GaN Systems jointly revealed the signing of their final agreement. In a significant financial move, Infineon invested $830 million in an all-cash acquisition of GaN Systems, leveraging their existing liquid assets.

Jochen Hanebeck, the CEO of Infineon Technologies, underscored the pivotal role of GaN technology in eliminating barriers to crafting eco-friendly and energy-efficient solutions, thereby propelling the low-carbon transition. The acquisition of GaN Systems propels Infineon along its GaN technology roadmap, cementing the company's position as a powerhouse in the power semiconductor industry with comprehensive expertise in all major power semiconductor technologies.

Notably, Infineon currently boasts a team of 450 GaN technology experts and possesses an impressive portfolio of over 350 GaN technology patents. This significant resource pool further solidifies Infineon's leadership in the power semiconductor landscape and significantly reduces product development timelines.
