AMD has recently declared the discontinuation of several programmable logic device (PLD) products, encompassing CPLD and FPGA, citing diminished operational rates and sustainability concerns. The affected product range includes XC9500XL, CoolRunner XPLA 3, CoolRunner II, Spartan II, Spartan 3, 3A, 3AN, 3E, and 3ADSP, spanning commercial/industrial "XC" and automotive "XA" series.
It is emphasized that last-time buys (LTB) will be entertained until June 29, 2024, subject to material availability. Orders persisting beyond April 30, 2024, will be deemed non-cancelable and non-returnable (NCNR). Additionally, the deadline for final shipments (LTS) is set for December 28, 2024. Return material authorizations (RMA) for replacements due to quality issues will be accepted until June 27, 2025.
In addition, reports suggest that for all discontinued CPLD or FPGA products lacking "direct replacements," AMD's decision not to introduce alternatives would signify the conclusion of the company's CPLD product line.
CPLD, or Complex Programmable Logic Devices, represents a processor type akin to FPGA or Field-Programmable Gate Array, boasting programmable hardware and stellar performance in specific workloads. This strategic move by AMD prompts inquiries into the future trajectory of the company's CPLD product offerings.
