Game Boy Mod Kit: Retro Revival!

Nintendo's original Game Boy has been around for over thirty years now, carrying a lot of childhood memories from the 80s and 90s.

With time, screens inevitably suffer from aging and cracking, and if you can't find replacement shells for screens, you might want to consider this modification kit.

Advantages:

· Replaces the thick screen of the Game Boy with a high-brightness ISP screen, with encoder settings in the menu.

· The top area of the screen displays battery levels in a progress bar format, which can be hidden at any time.

· The background and foreground colors of the game screen can be set to any different colors and can save up to 5 combinations. You can switch between them during gameplay.

· It comes with preset pixel edge anti-aliasing softening function, which can be enabled in the menu to reduce graininess. The feature is turned off by default because it might make the screen appear blurry. For those not afraid of a little fuzziness.

· The menu interface supports switching between Chinese and English.

· The content of the display area in the upper half of the menu interface can be customized, allowing you to use your favorite images, add your signature or logo, supporting 320*100 pixel 4-grayscale images.

Disadvantages:

· Requires slight trimming of the front shell during installation (as shown in the figure below).

· The connection between the screen and the motherboard is via a 15-pin flat cable and a small amount of flying wires, requiring a certain level of manual dexterity during installation.

· The screen consumes approximately 0.23W of power, and when powered by a Nanfu battery, it can only provide about 18 hours of continuous gameplay.

· The screen uses an IPS full-viewing angle screen, and the resolution is four to one pixel point rather than one to one point with the original machine, but the final effect is full-screen point-to-point display.

· The screen is not semi-reflective, so backlighting is required to be visible in sunlight.

· Some games display abnormally, optimization is planned for the next version.

This is a white Game Boy with a screen that can't display properly due to aging.

This version of the modification needs to trim two screws on the A-shell, reinforce the ribs, use them to clamp the PCB, stick a circle of Evo foam glue for screen protection and buffering to prevent dust.

Next is to connect the flying wires and the kit, need to pick up signals and a field signal

In total, one flat cable and six flying wires are needed, then connect the flat cable

Adjust the foreground and background colors, several colors as follows

Later, you need to prepare a redesigned PCB to replace the display and keypad boards directly, eliminating the need for flying wires, reducing the difficulty of modification, directly connecting the flat cable and the motherboard, and integrating 5 sets of classic colors, optimizing some small bugs.
