If you frequently need to work on construction projects but find it inconvenient to constantly replace batteries in your level, you can consider modifying the level to be powered by a lithium battery.
First, disassemble the level. Here is how it looks inside:
The main controller is an HT48R063.
The device originally used three AA batteries. Remove the spring contacts.
Choose a power bank with a step-up circuit. Avoid using a complete power bank since many require you to press a button for output.
The step-up solution is an ME2108A, which is a simple circuit with just three components that provides a 5V output at 400mA.
Stick the circuit board to the back of the battery compartment.
Prepare some batteries.
The batteries fit perfectly in the battery compartment.
Connect the original power switch of the device between the lithium battery protection board and the step-up board.
Finally, create a charging circuit using a ready-made TP4056 board with battery protection.
Done!
