Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Plus to Feature Dimensity 9300+

According to a report from South Korean media outlet Chosun, Samsung is set to implement significant changes to its Galaxy Tab S10 series. The upcoming Galaxy Tab S10 Plus will feature MediaTek's Dimensity 9300+ processor platform, replacing Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. This marks a notable shift, as it is the first time Samsung will use a MediaTek processor in its high-end tablet lineup.

The primary reason behind Samsung's decision is the rising cost of Qualcomm chipsets. Recent estimates place the price of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 at around $200. Reports indicate that Samsung's switch to the Dimensity 9300+ is largely due to the price increases of Qualcomm chipsets. Notably, Samsung chose to collaborate with MediaTek instead of using its own Exynos 2400.

An anonymous industry insider revealed that MediaTek provided Samsung with more favorable terms. Selecting the Dimensity 9300+ for the Galaxy Tab S10 Plus is a strategic decision, given the chipset's robust performance and efficiency. The Dimensity 9300+, manufactured using TSMC's 4nm process, supports advanced technologies such as LPDDR5T RAM and AI models with 1B, 7B, and 13B parameters, scalable up to 33B.

A report highlighted that MediaTek led smartphone chipset shipments in Q1 2024, with approximately 114 million units shipped. Despite this, MediaTek's sales revenue remains lower compared to Qualcomm, even though Qualcomm's chipset shipments were lower in the same period. These statistics underscore MediaTek's ability to offer attractive pricing for its SoCs, including the Dimensity 9300+, making it a competitive player and appealing partner for companies like Samsung.

Analyst predictions suggest that Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, expected to launch later this year, may see a price increase of 25%-30%. This potential hike could encourage Samsung to expand its partnership with MediaTek. It is conceivable that the Dimensity 9400 may be featured in future devices within the Galaxy Tab S11 series.
