Arm Unveils ASR: AMD FSR2-Based, 53% FPS Boost

On WJuly 12,  Arm has announced the launch of its new Arm Accuracy Super Resolution (ASR) technology, an advanced resolution upscaling solution based on AMD's FSR 2 (FreeSync 2) technology. This innovation is specifically optimized for mobile devices, enabling smooth performance for high-end gaming on these platforms.

In internal tests, Arm's ASR technology demonstrated impressive results. Utilizing the Immortalis-G720 GPU at a resolution of 2800x1260, the technology achieved a frame rate boost of up to 53% during 2x supersampling, significantly outperforming FSR 2's 36% improvement.

Additionally, tests conducted on MediaTek's Dimensity 9300 chipset revealed that activating 2x ASR supersampling reduced power consumption by more than 20% compared to native 1080p rendering. This reduction is crucial for extending battery life and minimizing device heat generation.

Arm ASR technology offers more than just performance enhancements. Its open-source nature provides developers with easy, cost-free access and integration, eliminating the need for additional licensing fees. This simplification facilitates cross-platform game development, allowing for a seamless gaming experience across different devices.

Notably, ASR employs temporal upsampling technology, which offers superior visual results compared to Qualcomm's spatial upsampling technology, Snapdragon Game Super Resolution (GSR). ASR's approach minimizes visual artifacts, such as image blurring and sharpening artifacts, resulting in a more polished visual experience.
