As it enters the fourth quarter, MediaTek, a leading player in mobile chip technology, is poised to unveil its flagship Dimensity chipset for the year. The highly anticipated Dimensity 9400 will be officially announced on October 9, aiming to enhance the company's operational performance for the remainder of the year and into 2024.
MediaTek's promotional video highlights three core architectures of the new chipset: the Central Processing Unit (CPU), the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), and the Artificial Intelligence Processor (NPU). The slogan "AI Heart Beyond, Dimensity Leads the Way" underscores the focus on advanced AI capabilities.
The previously released Dimensity 9300+ was manufactured using TSMC's 4nm process and featured a full big-core CPU architecture, achieving an impressive 68 TOPS in AI computing power. This has raised expectations for the Dimensity 9400 to exceed these benchmarks.
Notably, the Dimensity 9400 is the first chip from MediaTek to utilize TSMC's 3nm process technology, featuring Arm v9 cores and a complete big-core configuration. The latest chipset promises further enhancements in generative AI capabilities. While detailed specifications have yet to be released, market rumors suggest that the CPU's single-core performance will improve by at least 30% over its predecessor, with exceptional GPU performance and nearly a 20% boost in ray-tracing capabilities.
MediaTek's CEO, Rick Tsai, has previously stated that the initial range of devices featuring the Dimensity 9400 will surpass that of the Dimensity 9300, reflecting the company’s confidence in achieving over 50% revenue growth for its flagship products in 2024.
Mobile chips continue to be the cornerstone of MediaTek's operations, with expectations for growth across all revenue categories this year. The company anticipates a 14% to 16% increase in revenue in US dollars compared to the previous year, with mobile revenue growth outpacing other segments.
