ADI Acquires eFPGA Company Flex Logix

Flex Logix, a U.S.-based startup specializing in reconfigurable AI chips, has announced on its official website that it has sold its technological assets to a major publicly listed company. The acquisition includes both Flex Logix's proprietary technology and its core technical team, with existing customer arrangements also being transferred. According to EETimes, the acquiring company is Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI).

An ADI spokesperson stated that this acquisition significantly enhances ADI's digital portfolio, enabling the company to better support clients in addressing complex technical challenges. However, ADI has declined to disclose the terms of the transaction or further specifics.

Flex Logix is known for its expertise in reconfigurable computing, delivering cutting-edge eFPGA, DSP/SDR, and AI inference solutions for semiconductor and systems companies. Its eFPGA technology allows high-volume FPGA users to integrate FPGAs directly into SoCs, reducing FPGA costs and power consumption by 5-10 times while increasing compute density, a critical advantage in communications, networking, data centers, and microcontrollers. Flex Logix's scalable DSP/SDR/AI solutions offer high inference throughput per square millimeter and per watt, with support for process nodes ranging from 180nm to 7nm, and ongoing development for 5nm, 3nm, and 18A.

In the AI space, Flex Logix's InferX X1 has been touted as one of the industry's fastest and most efficient AI inference chips, outperforming Nvidia's Xavier NX in running the YOLOv3 object detection algorithm. Back in 2021, the company raised $55 million in funding led by Mithril Capital Management, a Texas-based investment firm.
