On November 26, Huawei officially launched the Mate 70 series, introducing groundbreaking features such as the new-generation Kirin 9020 chipset, native HarmonyOS, and an innovative satellite paging functionality.
The Mate 70 Pro+ debuts with an advanced "Titanium Xuanwu Architecture," featuring a high-gloss titanium alloy middle frame that enhances durability—doubling drop resistance and improving scratch resistance fivefold. The device is equipped with second-generation Kunlun Glass on the front, increasing drop resistance by 20 times, and uses ultra-durable Jinfiber material on the back, which boosts impact resistance fivefold. Together, these components create a highly reliable structure with an eye-catching high-gloss finish. The phone also supports IP68 water resistance at depths of up to 6 meters and IP69 resistance against high-pressure, high-temperature water jets.
The Mate 70 series offers impressive display specifications. The Mate 70 features a 6.7-inch OLED flat display with a resolution of 2688×1216 pixels, supporting both side fingerprint and facial recognition. Meanwhile, the Mate 70 Pro and Mate 70 Pro+ are equipped with 6.9-inch OLED quad-curved displays with a resolution of 2832×1316 pixels. They include triple punch-hole designs for 3D facial recognition and payment, along with side fingerprint sensors. All models feature LTPO technology with adaptive refresh rates ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz, 1440Hz PWM dimming, and a peak brightness of 2500 nits.
In terms of processors, while Huawei has not officially disclosed details, testing data indicates that the Mate 70 standard edition is powered by the older Kirin 9010 processor. In contrast, the Mate 70 Pro, Mate 70 Pro+, and Mate 70 RS debut the all-new Kirin 9020 chipset. This 12-core processor boasts two high-performance cores at 2.5GHz, six mid-performance cores at 2.15GHz, and four efficiency cores at 1.6GHz, with a GPU rated at 840MHz. Compared to the previous-generation Kirin 9010, the Kirin 9020 delivers significant improvements, with Huawei claiming a 40% performance boost for the Mate 70 series, likely enabled by a new CPU architecture.
For imaging, the Mate 70 series features a 50MP Ultra Aperture main camera (f/1.4–f/4.0 variable aperture, OIS), a 48MP telephoto lens (4x optical zoom, f/2.1, OIS), and a 40MP ultra-wide-angle lens (f/2.2, supporting close-up focus as close as 5cm). The Mate 70 Pro+ uses RYYB sensors for all three cameras, while the Mate 70 Pro adopts RGGB sensors. Additionally, the Mate 70 Pro and Pro+ debut the "Maple TrueColor Camera," which leverages over 1.5 million multispectral channels to enhance environmental color accuracy by 120%, offering vivid and true-to-life image reproduction.
The series comes preloaded with HarmonyOS 4.3, with an option to upgrade to HarmonyOS 5. According to Huawei, the native HarmonyOS ecosystem now supports over 15,000 apps and services across 18 vertical industries. The OS, combined with the Ark Scheduler Engine and new hardware optimizations, improves system fluidity by 39%, game launch speeds by 52%, and frame rates by 31%, achieving an overall performance boost of 40%.
With these upgrades, the Mate 70 series offers significant advancements over the previous Mate 60 lineup while maintaining consistent pricing. Notably, the Mate 70 Pro+ is priced 500 yuan lower than its predecessor, making it a competitive choice in the market.
