If you're interested in DIY modding the SONY SRF-M85V radio, this article might be worth checking out.
The M85V radio has good reception with heavy bass, uses a single AA battery, and has a compact design that's easy to carry around. It's pretty cool to clip onto your belt. However, the issue lies with the volume knob – it tends to brush against your pants while walking, causing the volume to either turn up too high or too low, requiring occasional manual adjustment.
So, how can we fix this? The solution is to add a protective ring around the volume knob so that it rubs against your jeans.
The protective ring is made of stainless steel, which you can get from a hose clamp used to connect a liquefier pressure valve to a hose. Simply cut it in half, and it's the perfect size.
Smooth it out and glue it in place with super glue.
For the volume knob, you can use a heated sewing needle to poke some small holes into it.
This way, you can still adjust the volume without any issues.
As for the AA battery, you'll need to buy replacements. Unfortunately, that's a limitation that can't be fixed easily, and rechargeable batteries will stop too soon. If you have any ideas for improving the battery section, feel free to modify it later.
That's it!
