NVIDIA RTX 50 Series Sells Out, Prices Triple

NVIDIA’s newly launched RTX 50 series graphics cards have sparked a buying frenzy, especially during the initial sales event in Taiwan, where supply fell drastically short of demand. Sources within the industry reveal that the number of units received by retailers was in the single digits, and the shortage is expected to persist in the short term. The high-end RTX 5090 model has already appeared on the resale market, with prices soaring to between NT$200,000 and NT$300,000—far surpassing the official retail price of NT$71,990.

Unveiled on January 7 at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in the United States, the RTX 50 series is built on NVIDIA's Blackwell architecture, incorporating AI-driven neural rendering and ray-tracing technologies. The top-tier RTX 5090 boasts AI performance exceeding 3352 TOPS, making it a powerhouse for both gaming and AI workloads.

On January 30, 3C retailer Xinya Digital held an exclusive launch event for the RTX 50 series, attracting large crowds of eager gamers. Due to limited stock, Xinya Digital adopted a lottery system to determine who could purchase the cards. Estimates suggest the chances of winning the lottery were less than 2%.

Given the ongoing demand for the previous generation RTX 4090 and 4080 models, which failed to meet market needs, experts predict that the RTX 50 series will face a similar supply shortage for some time. Moreover, with the release coinciding with the Lunar New Year holiday period, logistical delays may further extend the delivery timeline.

Tim Adams, Community Manager for NVIDIA's GeForce division, commented on the company's official forum that NVIDIA expects high demand for the RTX 5090 and 5080 models, which may lead to stock shortages. To help meet this demand, NVIDIA and its partners are working to supply retailers with more units each day, ensuring that gamers can eventually get their hands on the sought-after cards.
