Qualcomm recently announced its Q1 FY2025 financial results for the period ending December 29, 2024, showing impressive growth across key business segments. The company reported a 17% year-over-year increase in revenue, reaching $11.669 billion, marking a record for the same period. Adjusted net income also saw a 24% rise, reaching $3.83 billion.
A standout performance came from Qualcomm's mobile chip business, which saw a 13% revenue increase to $7.574 billion, setting a new high. Additionally, the automotive chip segment experienced significant growth, with revenue surging 61% to $961 million, marking the sixth consecutive quarter of record-breaking results.
According to semiconductor analyst Sravan Kundojjala from Semiconductors, Qualcomm's Snapdragon X series chips are now expected to power 10% of Windows PCs priced at $800 or above in the U.S. market. This is a notable achievement, especially considering that only 720,000 Snapdragon X-powered PCs were shipped in Q3 2024, representing just 0.8% of the market share, based on Canalys data.
While the 10% market share figure may seem modest, it is important to note that this only includes PCs priced at $800 or more, which is slightly above the average price of laptops in 2024, estimated at $750.
Looking ahead, Kundojjala predicts Qualcomm will launch 80 Snapdragon X series PC designs in FY2025, with the number exceeding 100 in 2026. The company aims to achieve $4 billion in revenue from Snapdragon X series PC chips by FY2029.
This growth highlights Qualcomm's continued expansion in the mobile and automotive sectors, solidifying its position as a leader in cutting-edge chip technology.
