According to reports from South Korean media outlet TheElec, Samsung Display has postponed its plans to install a second 8th-generation OLED deposition machine at its A6 production line. This machine was intended for the production of OLED panels for non-smartphone devices. The delay is attributed to several market factors.
ICD, the display equipment manufacturer, recently announced a five-month extension of its contract with Japan's Canon Tokki. The original agreement, valued at 30 billion Korean Won, was set to expire this month. Although ICD did not disclose the specific details of the supply, it is believed to be related to the second 8th-generation OLED deposition machine.
The first deposition machine, supplied by Canon Tokki, has already been put into operation at Samsung Display's A6 production line, where it is being used to manufacture OLED panel samples for non-smartphone devices. The second machine was initially planned to produce similar OLED panels, targeted at customers other than Apple. However, delays in the release of Apple's OLED MacBook Air and sluggish sales of OLED iPads have led to a reduction in market demand for 8th-generation OLED panels, affecting Samsung Display's installation schedule.
