DIY Multifunctional TV with 14-Inch Screen Guide

If you're interested in building a DIY multifunctional TV, this article is a great guide for you. If you have a 14-inch screen, you can follow along and create one yourself. You will also need a finished driver board. If you don't like working with bare boards or find it inconvenient to deal with all the cables, you can use micro bricks to build a custom shell.

The finished driver board comes with a remote control and speakers, as shown in the image.

Since the screen is 14 inches and includes speakers, you'll need about 4,000 micro bricks. The first step is to secure the screen on all four sides.

Make sure to leave space for the buttons and speakers according to their sizes, positioning them below the screen and arranging the speakers on both sides.

Here's how to arrange the driver board.

The speakers are fixed like this.

Once the speakers and control buttons are set in place, you can move on to assembling the back.

You can choose any design you like for this part. The design shown here features a Nintendo Switch controller and Super Mario. It's a bit difficult to create Super Mario with just two colors; it would look better if there were four.

The front looks like this.

On the side, you'll find ports for VGA, HDMI, AV, USB, an antenna, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The only thing missing is a Type-C port, but overall, it's a fairly complete setup.

Here are some possible use scenarios:

1. You can connect it to an EmuELEC gaming system box via HDMI and use it as a TV.

2. You can connect it to a DVR and use it as a monitoring display.

3. You can plug in a USB drive and play videos and images from it; it handles 1080P resolution with ease.

4. You can connect it to a DSLR camera and use it as a “monitor.”

5. You can connect it to a computer and use it as a secondary display for watching shows or working. If your graphics card only has one HDMI port, you’ll need a DP cable for additional support.

The remote control allows you to adjust various settings as shown below.

And there you have it – your very own multifunctional “portable” TV is ready to go!

All done!
