DIY Emergency Outdoor Soft Light for Photography

If you're into outdoor photography but don't have any lighting equipment, check out this article to DIY an emergency outdoor soft light!

Before you get started, you'll need an indoor softbox and a hot-shoe flash.

1. First, take a 40x60cm softbox and mount it on a tripod. Find the center point on top and mark a line where the flash head's light will come through.

2. Next, use a knife to carefully cut out a slightly smaller hole along the line you just drew, like the picture below shows.

3. Flip the cut reflective material outward.

4. Then, rotate the flash head 90 degrees and insert it into the hole you made, as shown in the photo.

5. Make sure the flash is parallel to the softbox's surface. If it feels unstable, use a magic strap (Velcro strap) to secure the flipped reflective material to the flash so it won't fall off.

6. Inside the softbox, pull out the flash's diffuser panel and attach the softbox fabric.

7. And you're done! After testing, this setup works really well.

The advantage of this design is that the flash remains outside the softbox, making it easy to adjust the settings. Plus, if you're not outdoors, you can replace the flash with an E27 bulb for indoor lighting.
