NVIDIA's $100B OpenAI Investment Lifts Global Chip Stocks

According to reports, NVIDIA's bold plan to invest $100 billion in OpenAI has sparked a global rally in major tech and semiconductor stocks on Tuesday.

In Taiwan, TSMC, which manufactures NVIDIA's advanced chips, surged 3.5% by market close. Over in South Korea, SK Hynix, a key player in high-bandwidth memory (HBM) for NVIDIA's systems, jumped more than 2.5%, while rival Samsung gained 1.4%. Although Samsung has yet to supply HBM chips to NVIDIA, investors are betting it could soon secure approval to join the supply chain.

Japan also saw gains, with Tokyo Electron, a leading semiconductor equipment maker, climbing 3.87%. The momentum carried into Europe as well, where STMicroelectronics, Infineon, and BE Semiconductor all traded higher in early hours.

However, not all news was positive. ASM International warned that its fourth-quarter revenue may fall short of earlier forecasts, sending its shares down nearly 1% and putting pressure on other equipment makers, including ASML, which edged up less than 1% by press time.
