Intel Xeon 600 Series Boosts Workstation Performance

According to reports, Intel has officially unveiled its new Xeon 600 series workstation processors, codenamed "Granite Rapids Workstation, building on the same architecture as the Xeon 6900P/6700P/6500P "Granite Rapids" line. Designed for high-performance workstations, these processors bring significant upgrades in compute, memory, and AI capabilities.

The Xeon 600 series uses the FCLGA4710 socket and pairs with W890 chipset motherboards, supporting up to 86 CPU cores and eight memory channels. All models are compatible with DDR5-6400 RDIMM memory modules and offer up to 128 PCIe Gen5 lanes, which can also be configured for CXL 2.0. Intel claims the flagship Xeon 696X delivers up to 9% higher single-thread performance, 61% higher multi-thread performance, and a 17% boost in AI/ML workloads compared to the previous-generation Xeon W9-3595X.

The series is divided into four branches to suit different computing needs: Xeon 69x, 67x, 65x, and 63x. The Xeon 69x offers 86-core and 64-core options with eight memory channels and 8000MT/s MRDIMM support, all unlocked, with a TDP of 350W. Xeon 67x includes 48-core, 32-core, and 28-core versions with eight-channel memory and TDPs from 270W to 300W. Xeon 65x provides 24-core, 20-core, and 18-core processors, some unlocked, with a 200–250W TDP. Xeon 63x delivers 16-core and 12-core options with four memory channels, all locked, and TDPs of 150–180W.

Intel plans to launch the Xeon 600 series through its partners or as standalone boxed units by the end of March 2026, offering workstation users a fresh choice for high-performance computing.
