Samsung SSD Prices in Japan Surge Over 300%

According to reports from unwire.hk, Samsung Electronics SSD products have experienced sharp price increases in the Japanese market amid ongoing labor disputes, with some models seeing cumulative price hikes exceeding 300%.

Among the most notable changes, the flagship Samsung 9100 PRO 8TB SSD reportedly reached a peak price of ¥547,980 (approximately HK$27,399). Industry observers attribute the rapid price escalation primarily to surging demand for AI inference workloads, which has significantly increased consumption of NAND flash memory compared with traditional server applications.

At the same time, major manufacturers are accelerating a transition toward higher-layer 3D NAND technologies. This shift has tightened supply for legacy process nodes, further amplifying price pressure across the market. Data shows that 128Gb MLC NAND flash prices climbed to $17.73 in March, marking nearly a 40% month-on-month increase and extending a 15-month consecutive upward trend.

Market forecasts indicate that NAND contract prices could rise by 70% to 75% quarter-on-quarter in Q2 this year. Within this environment, Samsung’s SSD lineup has seen widespread price adjustments, with the Samsung 9100 PRO 4TB SSD increasing by 31.5%, while mainstream models such as the Samsung 990 PRO SSD have surged by as much as 384.7% compared with early January levels.

In addition, Samsung implemented two separate price increases in April, each exceeding 10%. Other memory and storage vendors, including Kingston Technology, have also followed similar upward pricing adjustments, reflecting broader tightening conditions across the global NAND flash and SSD supply chain driven by AI-related demand growth.
