Intel Wildcat Lake Entry-Level Laptops Near Launch

According to industry reports, entry-level laptops powered by Intel’s upcoming “Wildcat Lake” architecture under the Intel Core Ultra 300 Series are expected to hit retail markets as early as next week, marking the first wave of AI-capable mainstream notebook systems targeting the budget and entry-level PC segment.

Initial product launches are expected from OEMs including Honor and ASUS, offering 14-inch and 16-inch laptop configurations. Among them, the Honor Notebook X14 2026 Gaming Edition is reported to be the first commercially available system based on the Wildcat Lake platform, featuring the Intel Core 5 320 processor.

The device is equipped with 16GB of LPDDR5X memory running at 7467 MT/s—twice the capacity of Apple’s MacBook Neo baseline configuration—and a 512GB SSD. By comparison, the MacBook Neo starts at 256GB storage, with a maximum option of 512GB.

From an architectural perspective, Wildcat Lake is described as a multi-chip system-on-chip (SoC) design. According to technical disclosures, it integrates a compute tile built on Intel’s 18A process node, featuring a 6-core CPU, a fifth-generation neural processing unit (NPU) delivering up to 40 TOPS INT8 AI performance, and up to two Xe3 GPU cores. It also integrates memory controllers and cache, paired with a separate I/O-dedicated chiplet.

The Core Ultra 300 series is positioned by Intel as a mainstream AI-ready processor family focused on power efficiency and always-on performance. Compared with the previous-generation Core 7 150U platform, Intel claims up to 2.1× improvement in productivity and creative workloads, up to 64% lower power consumption, and up to 2.7× higher AI GPU performance.

Industry sources suggest that the Wildcat Lake platform is expected to expand beyond initial OEM designs. Reports indicate that a rumored “Googlebook” laptop project from Google may also adopt Intel’s Core Ultra 300 series processors, although alternative silicon suppliers such as Qualcomm and MediaTek are also reportedly in consideration.

Overall, Intel’s Wildcat Lake platform represents a strategic push to extend AI computing capabilities into the entry-level PC segment, combining improved efficiency with enhanced on-device AI performance. This shift is expected to accelerate AI adoption in mainstream thin-and-light laptops while intensifying competition across the PC processor market.
