VIS Singapore Fab Achieves Over 99% Yield

According to Vanguard International Semiconductor Corporation (VIS), Chairman Fang Leuh has expressed strong confidence in the production roadmap of the company’s Singapore-based subsidiary, VSMC, after the facility successfully produced its first batch of 40nm wafers in early June 2026. Initial testing showed yields exceeding 99%, marking a significant milestone for the new 12-inch wafer fab.

Fang noted that the project progressed from a greenfield site to a fully operational semiconductor manufacturing facility within just 22 months. He described the achievement as a remarkable accomplishment, highlighting the team's ability to meet stringent quality and operational standards throughout the construction and commissioning process.

The Singapore fab remains on track to begin mass production in the first quarter of 2027. However, Fang added that the company is exploring opportunities to accelerate the timeline if operational readiness and customer demand permit.

Regarding the possibility of a second fab in Singapore, Fang acknowledged that the topic has been raised frequently due to strong customer interest and high capacity commitments at the existing facility. While demand for additional manufacturing capacity has emerged from several customers, VIS has not yet initiated formal planning for a second plant.

He emphasized that any future expansion decision will be based on a comprehensive evaluation of customer requirements, market conditions, and the company’s long-term strategic objectives.

Commenting on market conditions, Fang said the automotive electronics sector has largely completed its inventory correction cycle and is showing signs of stabilization, with moderate growth expected moving forward. Among all application segments, power management devices continue to demonstrate the strongest growth momentum.

As a result, the Singapore facility is expected to maintain a strategic focus on power management semiconductor production, supporting demand from automotive, industrial, and other high-growth electronics applications.
