Intel CPU Price Hike: Pegatron Responds

According to recent industry reports, Intel has officially confirmed price increases across its CPU portfolio, with adjustments ranging from tens of dollars to several thousand dollars depending on the product. The move has drawn attention across the PC and semiconductor industries, prompting comments from hardware manufacturers on the broader market outlook.

Speaking on July 7, Pegatron Chairman Tung Tzu-hsien said the recent wave of price increases affecting CPUs, integrated circuits (ICs), materials, substrates, and passive components reflects strong market demand rather than an abnormal market condition. He explained that temporary shortages and short-term price adjustments are common during periods of industry expansion and should not be viewed as a cause for significant concern.

Tung noted that when demand outpaces supply, manufacturers naturally gain greater pricing power. As supply constraints emerge, prices tend to rise, encouraging companies throughout the semiconductor ecosystem to expand production capacity. This pattern is not limited to CPUs but also applies to passive components, IC materials, and semiconductor substrates. He emphasized that such pricing adjustments are a normal part of the industry's supply-and-demand cycle.

Intel previously stated that it continuously monitors global supply chain conditions while tracking changes in upstream costs, including raw materials, wafer manufacturing, and logistics. The company said the latest pricing adjustments reflect a comprehensive evaluation of increasing operational and production costs across multiple areas of its business.

Industry research comparing channel pricing before and after Intel's announcement confirmed that price increases have been implemented across the company's desktop and mobile processor lineup. As a result, procurement costs throughout the distribution channel have also increased.

As one of the highest-value components in a computer system, CPUs account for a significant portion of overall hardware costs. The latest price adjustments are expected to increase procurement expenses for PC brands and manufacturing partners. To maintain profit margins, many companies are likely to pass part of the higher costs on to end customers, leading to gradual price increases for notebooks, desktop computers, industrial PCs, and other computing systems.
