LG Q2 Operating Profit Surges 146.9%

According to LG Electronics, the company reported preliminary second-quarter results showing operating profit of KRW 1.5788 trillion, marking the second consecutive quarter in which quarterly operating profit exceeded KRW 1 trillion. Operating profit for the first half of the year reached KRW 3.2525 trillion, surpassing the company's total operating profit for the entire previous year.

LG Electronics announced on July 7 that preliminary second-quarter revenue reached KRW 23.8297 trillion, while operating profit totaled KRW 1.5788 trillion. Revenue increased 14.9% year over year, and operating profit surged 146.9% compared with the same period last year. Both figures represent the highest second-quarter performance in the company's history.

For the first six months of the year, cumulative revenue reached KRW 47.5569 trillion, up 9.4% year over year, while operating profit climbed 71.3% to KRW 3.2525 trillion, highlighting continued business momentum across its major product segments.

The company's strong second-quarter performance was driven by higher sales of premium products in its core home appliance and television businesses, robust overseas demand for air conditioning systems, and sustained growth in its vehicle solutions business. Despite external uncertainties, including geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, strong demand across its core businesses supported overall earnings growth.

Operating profit also benefited from operating leverage generated by higher revenue, continued expansion of high-margin businesses such as webOS, subscription services, and online sales, as well as ongoing improvements in cost competitiveness. Although LG Electronics recognized expenses related to its voluntary retirement program in April, company-wide cost-control initiatives and operational efficiency measures helped maintain strong profitability.
