Samsung Launches Flex Titanium for Galaxy Foldables

According to Samsung Electronics, the company has introduced its new “Flex Titanium” display technology, which will be applied to next-generation Galaxy foldable devices. The technology is designed to enhance display durability, reduce visible creases, and deliver a more seamless and immersive viewing experience.

Samsung’s Flex Titanium technology achieves a balance between ultra-thin design, flexibility, and structural reliability by redesigning the internal display architecture. Instead of conventional plastic films, Samsung has adopted a dual-layer structure consisting of a titanium alloy film and a titanium plate, both featuring high elasticity and mechanical strength.

Titanium is widely recognized for its exceptional durability and reliability, making it suitable for demanding applications such as aerospace components. However, integrating titanium into foldable displays has presented significant engineering challenges due to the material’s combination of high rigidity and elasticity, which must be carefully optimized for lightweight and flexible devices.

The titanium alloy film positioned beneath the OLED panel is manufactured using advanced titanium materials and offers approximately 20 times higher rigidity than existing polymer films. Through ultra-precision rolling processes, Samsung has reduced the film thickness to around one-third of the diameter of a human hair, enabling a thinner and more lightweight display structure.

The titanium alloy plate, which supports the folding and unfolding movements of the display, incorporates advanced micro-hole processing technology to significantly reduce the size of holes in the folding area. Combined with a robust bonding structure, the titanium plate provides stable support when the device is unfolded while improving flexibility during folding, helping to minimize screen creases.

Beyond structural improvements, Flex Titanium also enhances core display performance. By integrating high-resolution designs and next-generation organic materials, Samsung aims to deliver superior image quality while improving energy efficiency through reduced display power consumption.

With advancements in titanium-based materials and foldable OLED engineering, Samsung’s Flex Titanium technology represents a major step toward more durable, thinner, and more immersive foldable display devices.
