Micron Signs AI Auto Memory Deals

According to Micron Technology, the company has signed long-term supply agreements with automotive technology companies, including chip designer Qualcomm and audio solutions provider Harman, to ensure a stable supply of memory and storage components for next-generation AI-powered vehicles.

The rapid adoption of artificial intelligence technologies has driven strong demand for memory chips, prompting semiconductor companies worldwide to accelerate capacity expansion. These memory solutions are increasingly used across data centers, consumer electronics, and automotive applications, supporting advanced AI features such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and digital cockpits.

Micron is currently the only U.S.-headquartered company manufacturing high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips compatible with NVIDIA’s AI processors. The company has benefited from strong market demand for AI infrastructure, allowing Micron and competitors such as SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics to command premium pricing for advanced memory products.

In the automotive sector, Micron has established strategic agreements with multiple automotive component companies, including Visteon, JOYNEXT, DENSO, Astemo, and Hyundai Mobis. These partnerships aim to provide a more reliable supply chain and pricing stability for future advanced vehicle platforms, helping automakers and technology partners improve production planning and investment strategies.

Qualcomm President and CEO Cristiano Amon said that as vehicles become increasingly software-defined, automakers require technology platforms capable of integrating high-performance computing, connectivity, memory, and storage capabilities.

Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra previously revealed that the company had signed 16 strategic customer agreements. He expects growth driven by data centers to increasingly complement AI demand from smartphones, premium PCs, automotive systems, and robotics applications.

With AI becoming a key driver of automotive innovation, memory and storage technologies are expected to play a critical role in enabling smarter, more connected vehicles.
