Anthropic Leases $45B AI Capacity from Nscale

According to people familiar with the matter, artificial intelligence startup Anthropic plans to invest $45 billion to lease AI cloud computing capacity from cloud infrastructure provider Nscale at its data center campus in West Virginia, United States. The move comes as Anthropic continues to expand its computing resources ahead of a potential large-scale initial public offering (IPO).

Anthropic is accelerating its infrastructure expansion as demand for AI programming tools such as Claude Code is expected to continue growing. Nscale will deploy NVIDIA’s next-generation Vera Rubin chips to support Anthropic’s increasing AI workload requirements.

In recent years, Anthropic has made substantial investments in graphics processing units (GPUs), computing infrastructure, AI model training and inference capabilities, as well as talent acquisition. Previous reports indicated that the company expects annual revenue to reach approximately $190 billion to $200 billion by 2028, significantly higher than its current annualized revenue of around $47 billion.

The agreement between Anthropic and Nscale is expected to run for six years and will involve approximately 460 megawatts of power capacity, highlighting the growing demand for large-scale AI data center infrastructure.

In July, AMD announced plans to provide Anthropic with AI servers worth billions of dollars and invest up to $5 billion in the Claude developer as part of a broader effort to strengthen AI computing partnerships.

Additionally, SpaceX revealed in its IPO filing that Anthropic has agreed to pay SpaceX $1.25 billion per month through May 2029. The payments are tied to access to AI computing capacity from SpaceX’s Colossus and Colossus II AI training data center clusters.

The rapid expansion of Anthropic’s AI infrastructure highlights the accelerating demand for advanced GPUs, high-performance computing systems, and next-generation semiconductor technologies to support large-scale artificial intelligence development.
