DIY Repair Socket for Switching Power Supplies

Suppose you have a pile of power supplies, many of which are faulty. You may suddenly get the idea of building a simple repair socket to make troubleshooting and repairing these power supplies easier.

This repair socket has a simple design, but its biggest advantage is that you can build it quickly. It is more than sufficient for repairing common switching power supplies. Here is the schematic diagram of the repair socket.

By switching the selector, you can either connect the power supply directly or connect a light bulb in series for protection.

Cut an opening in the surface-mount electrical box and install a three-pole, three-position switch.

The two side positions allow direct connection or protection, respectively, while the middle position completely disconnects the circuit.

Enlarge the hole in the cable-entry insert of the 86-type electrical box and install a cable protection sleeve.

Then, secure the lamp holder and the 86-type electrical box to the wooden board.

Connect the switch and the socket together on the back of the switch panel.

Drill a 3 mm hole in the metal plate of the socket and install an LED, making it easy to check whether the circuit is energized.

The repair socket is now complete. Here is the finished product.
